Avoid Hampster-Wheel Syndrome

Avoid spinning your social media wheels without a goal

Ever feel like you’re working and working and working and nothing seems to change? One thing leads to another, which leads to another, which leads to.. well, you going crazy.

I’ve fallen victim to this. I call it hamster-wheel syndrome, and it happens when you forget a crucial workflow step: measurable, achievable goals.

Anything Worth Doing Needs a Goal

Starting a new blog? How many times are you going to post in a week? How many guest posts are you planning on doing? How much traffic do you want in what amount of time?

Running a marathon? How many miles are you going to run this week? Next week?

Starting a social media campaign? What are you trying to accomplish? A certain number of followers, fans, comments, lead generations in a month?

Don’t do something just to do it. Ask yourself why you’re drawn to it.

Most likely it’s because there’s something you want to accomplish. Name it, put it down on paper, talk about it. It will make getting there a lot easier. And you and your team won’t be spinning your wheels in the meantime.

What are some goals you’ve set?
